Autism has been found throughout the world in families of all racial
and social backgrounds. It occurs in approximately 2-4 out of every
10,000 births, and is four times more common in boys than girls. When
wider criteria of autism are used, the number of children affected by
autism can be as high as 15-20 in every 10,000. It is estimated there
are 500,000 autistic suffers in China.
